I love sitting down and watching movies. It’s a nice change of pace from typing at the computer or reading. Documentaries provide an excellent opportunity to look through a lense at a social or political issue that may otherwise be glossed over by the media, or even when you consider it yourself. A documentary provides an alternative way to look at issues to expand our minds, delve a little deeper and challenge ourselves to consider various perspectives.
With that in mind, enjoy reading about these two filmmakers: South African filmmaker Rehad Desai and Canadian filmmaker Slater Jewell-Kemker. Then, check out their films. Start a dialogue maybe and consider other ways to think critically on the topics that the filmmakers raise. Your voice matters and that’s what these filmmakers prove because that’s how they started out: with curiosity and an open mind.
